A Slovakian girl who rejected bigot bullies to land a modelling contract is to be the face of one of Northern Ireland’s largest fashion events. The development comes following an attack on the home of an EU lady in Ballymena this week. Denisa won’t only be the face of the advertising campaign, appearing on poster advertisements and adshels around Belfast, but she’ll also open the 1st show tonight. The 21-year-old’s rise to the head of local modelling was exposed by the Belfast Telegram in Nov last year, after she won the Face of North Girl mag. Denisa moved to Belfast in Feb 2008 and set up home in the south of the city with her husband and some chums who had also travelled over from Slovakia.

they were made to leave their home for a night after a grouping of bullies broke their windows with bricks. The assault was one of a spate on houses belonging to eastern Continentals in May and June of last year. Pictures of the race attacks were shown around the planet and Belfast found itself being labelled as the race hate hotspot of Europe. Denisa has since then moved home numerous times, but she’s now settled down in her new place in south Belfast.

Michelle McTernan, co-director of the event, said that she was very happy to have scheduled Denisa.

The fashion banquet will start tonight with the Something Old, Something New show, followed by Deadly Designer tomorrow night. Demonstrating for the 1st time at Spring Into Summer will be acclaimed designer Vera Wang, who will display her last bridal collection, which is available at Brown Thomas in Dublin.
